This is South Africa's best rated hotel

Babylonstoren, nestled in the picturesque Cape Winelands, has been recognised as the top hotel in South Africa by Condé Nast Traveler readers, and 28th globally.

This year's annual Readers' Choice Awards saw participation from over 575,000 readers in the United States, who shared their travel experiences and highlighted the destinations they are most excited to revisit.

This achievement marks the fourth consecutive year that Babylonstoren has secured this prestigious title, earning an impressive reader score of 99.27.

Unforgettable food, cutting-edge design, and immersive experiences are key criteria for discerning travellers when choosing their ideal hotel.

Says Condé Nast Traveler of Babylonstoren: “What if you could actually visit the Garden of Eden?” At Babylonstoren, this mythical vision comes to life.

Located in the Drakenstein Valley, just 33 miles northeast of Cape Town, the estate is a stunning 590-acre paradise, rich in history and charm.

Founded in 1690, Babylonstoren draws inspiration from the farms that supplied ships on their journeys around the Cape of Good Hope to India.

The hotel is a harmonious blend of nature and design, featuring minimalist yet stylish cottages and suites. Guests are greeted by staff dressed casually in T-shirts and aprons, embodying a friendly and knowledgeable approach to hospitality.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the farm's offerings, from its bakery and winery to the cheesemaker and butcher. As noted in the awards, “Stay long enough and eventually you may forget that you’re staying at a hotel.”

The World's Top Hotel

Topping the list globally is The Lodge at Bodega Bay, California. This idyllic retreat sits on a bluff overlooking the Sonoma coast and offers guests a relaxed atmosphere filled with scenic beauty.

The in-house restaurant, Drakes Sonoma Coast, serves delightful breakfast options, including signature sandwiches and seasonal specialties.

“As the sun begins to set, there’s no better way to wrap the day than retiring in the fireside lounge surrounded by views of the Pacific Ocean,” the article notes, painting a picture of ultimate relaxation.

Following closely is The Ritz-Carlton, Doha, a luxurious oasis in Qatar, featuring stunning beachfront access and opulent amenities like the region's largest chandelier.

The hotel offers a unique blend of leisure and indulgence, with a sea-view gym and a rejuvenating spa experience

Hermann Bungalows in Palm Springs, California, is ranked third, and captures attention as a unique luxury destination. This resort within a resort offers chic accommodations designed to harmonize with the natural surroundings, featuring lavish amenities and a serene atmosphere.

Hermann Bungalows, a uniquely chic 24-suite lodge was opened by designer-hotelier Steve Hermann in 2022.
