Listed higher education provider, STADIO Holdings says the construction of its new Durbanville comprehensive campus is proceeding on schedule, with a major development: Phase 2 of the build has been approved earlier than initially planned.

This update was shared by CEO Chris Vorster during a voluntary business update presentation at STADIO’s Annual General Meeting on Thursday.

The Durbanville campus, due to open in 2026, will serve as a flagship hub for contact learning, with a projected capacity of over 6,000 students once both phases are completed.

The combined investment in the two phases is estimated at R325 million, and Phase 2 is scheduled for completion by August 2026.

Located in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, the new campus plans to offer schools in education, IT, law, media and design, commerce, architecture, and engineering

STADIO also reported an 8% year-on-year growth in total student enrolments for the first semester of 2025, with the headcount expected to reach 50,878 by 30 June. This includes:

-43,837 distance learning students (up 8% from 2024)
-7,041 contact learning students (up 11% from 2024)

This is the third consecutive year of solid enrolment growth, bolstered by increased interest in both remote and in-person programmes.

Notably, the contact learning segment has seen a 23% cumulative increase over recent years, underscoring the relevance of STADIO’s multi-campus strategy.

“Our vision is to broaden access to higher education in South Africa, with a goal of accommodating 100 000 students in time, 80% of whom will be distance learning students and 20% contact learning students,” Vorster has said previously.

The Durbanville campus will become the seventh physical location in Stadio’s growing national network, joining existing campuses in Bellville, Musgrave, Randburg, Hatfield, and Waterfall.
