New development near Sandton aims to spark billions in economic activity

Spearheaded by a joint venture between industry giants Calgro M3 and Eris Property Group, Project Bankenveld, located in District City, aims to redefine urban living and commerce in the region.

Bankenveld District City (BDC) is a smart, sustainable, inclusive environment that will become the model for mixed-used developments in South Africa. Located just off the Marlboro offramp, close to Sandton and with N3 highway exposure, it is Johannesburg North's most connected precinct.

The development is set to be a comprehensive mixed-use development, encompassing residential, commercial, retail, industrial, educational, and healthcare components.

Calgro M3, a renowned name in property development, will oversee the residential aspects of the project, while Eris Property Group brings its expertise to handle the commercial, retail, and industrial spaces.

The project is set to deliver between 20,000 to 30,000 housing units, addressing the critical need for affordable and quality housing in the area.

Alongside residential offerings, Project Bankenveld will feature significant commercial, retail, and industrial spaces, totaling a sprawling 500,000 square meters.

The mixed-use precinct will include state-of-the-art warehouses and logistics facilities, catering to the region's growing demand for industrial infrastructure.

The project will allocate approximately 34% of its land to infrastructure. This includes essential amenities such as roads, stormwater management systems, and extensive recreational and greenbelt areas.

By prioritising green spaces and eco-friendly practices, the project aims to create a vibrant and livable environment for residents and businesses alike.

Beyond its physical footprint, Project Bankenveld holds significant economic potential for the region. With an estimated revenue generation surpassing R18 billion, the project stands as a beacon of opportunity for local businesses, job seekers, and investors.

The development is poised to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and attract further investment to Gauteng.

Bankenveld District City (BDC) is ideally located on the N3 freeway and connected to the M1 freeway and major arterial routes in Johannesburg.

Situated adjacent to the Marlboro Road Gautrain station and the N3 freeway offramp, BDC's central location is close to Sandton, Midrand, Johannesburg. Conveniently located close to OR Tambo and Lanseria airports makes BDC a prime location for logistics and warehousing facilities.
