The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced the fuel price changes set to take effect on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.
The price of 95 petrol in Gauteng will rise to R21.47, down from R23.25 at the beginning of the year. Meanwhile, the coastal price will increase to R20.68, compared to R22.53 in January.
Wholesale diesel prices will see an increase of approximately 55 to 56 cents per litre, depending on the sulphur content.
Starting Wednesday, the wholesale price of diesel in Gauteng will be R19.21 per litre, a decrease from R21.82 at the start of 2024. On the coast, the price will rise to R18.42, down from R21.09.
In a statement, the ministry of Mineral and Petroleum Resources said that the average Brent Crude oil price decreased from $73.28 a barrel to $72.70 during the period under review.
International diesel and illuminating paraffin prices increased because of higher demand given the upcoming winter season in the Northern Hemisphere, the ministry said.
The rand, meanwhile, has taken strain since the re-election of Donald Trump as US president.

rom November 1 to 28, the average exchange rate was R17.93 to the US dollar, compared to R17.53 in the previous period.
This resulted in a higher Basic Fuel Price for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin, with increases of 22.35 cents per litre, 23.74 cents per litre, and 23.62 cents per litre, respectively.
In addition, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, approved a net increase of 15.4 cents per litre in the annual margin adjustments for petrol and 8.88 cents per litre for diesel and illuminating paraffin wholesale prices, effective December 4, 2024.
