GVK-Siya Zama has successfully completed the transformation of Cape Town Station into a vibrant mixed-use residential and retail space.
This ambitious project, the company’s largest in the Western Cape and one of its most significant in terms of value, has created a new hub connecting Strand Street and the Cape Town Railway Station.
The redevelopment features a spacious ‘grand entrance’ Galleria, providing pedestrians with unrestricted access.
Chris Maughan, Managing Director of GVK-Siya Zama’s Cape business unit, highlighted the project’s aim to offer student accommodation within a key transport node serving major tertiary educational campuses like UCT and CPUT.
Meeting the deadline for the 2024 student intake was a paramount challenge for the project. Spanning 77,000m², the redevelopment now includes a 20-storey, 3,000-bed purpose-built student accommodation facility, 6,000m² of retail space, and a world-class public square.
The building also boasts solar and energy efficient appliances including many safety features, specifically related to fire compliance.
